Westside Pylon Racing 2017

Post by topher77 » Tue Feb 21, 2017 9:29 pm

I have a few ideas to present that we have been brainstorming about for some pylon racing this season. This post is simply to get our ideas out there and get some feedback from our club about the events and classes proposed.

We were thinking about 3 classes

One class would be just for any of the hobby king "funfighters". This would include any of the fun fighter aircraft excluding the rare bear as it is decidedly faster than the rest and would present a rather unfair advantage.

The Corsair

The BF109

The Spitfire

The P-51

The AT-6

The Grumman F4F

Some of these are out of stock at the moment but hopefully they'll be back in before spring hits. As far as rules go for this class we were thinking 3s lipo max and stock prop only, no airframe modifications.

We were also considering an unlimited class for electrics and an unlimited class for gas. Not too sure on what rules or guidelines (if any) there should be for these. Perhaps a max wingspan and max cell count lipo and max power plant size for the gas guys. Please chime in with any feedback or questions and we can all come up with something together and measure interest for this event.

Just a thought...
It's possible to pack an extreme amount of power into a very small and sleek airframe. So perhaps a power (W) to weight ratio might also help to level the racing field.

I hate that the Fun Fighters were discontinued, I really liked the Corsair I had before it had an untimely landing!
