Top Flite Cessna 182 Skylane

Post by kdoughty » Wed Dec 14, 2011 5:28 pm

I will be building a Top Flite 182 Cessna as a winter project. I will try to post pictures as I go. It has a 81" wingspan, weight around 11 LBs.It's all sheeted, a first for me. I will be using a Super Tiger 90 , Mounted sideways with a special muffler that mounts on the fire wall. It will have runnig lights, landing light and a flashing becon. It will also have the Top Flite cockpit interior kit, I hope. I think it will take me a while as i don't work as fast as I once did.
Wish me luck!!!

Kelsey

Thanks for the advice.
Some of the guys are glassing theirs. They are coming in over 15 LBs , with 1 1/2 LBs of nose weight. I don't think I will be doing that.

Here is some new pictures

I still have a lot of time to think about colors , but I thinking of standard Cessna color , like white with trim, maybe red and black.
I had to stop building and work on the radio equipmemt and the lights while I could get to them

Here is a picture of the interior kit I will be installing later.
The next thing I will be doing is sheeting the bottom.

Time to start sheeting the bottom. There was a lot of fitting and warping. , but I got it going on. I forgot how much work there is to building compared to an ARF..

Just the interior kit looks like a handful to me! Did you say the flying weight was only 11 lbs?

I've got to get back to working on mine, at this rate you'll be flying while I'm still cutting sticks :)

The box says 10 to 12 LBs. the guys building them say they come out a low of 10 1/2 LBs to a high of 15 1/2 LBs. The high side, are glassing and painting theirs and having to add 1 1/2 LBs of nose weight. I will be using utrakote and putting some of the equipment in a forward hatch. I hope to not have to add a bunch of nose weight.
I worked a little on the forward hatch. here is some pictures.
